Typically, roller chain links comprise four components to ensure efficient energy transmission:

2-Pin: Pins serve the essential function of connecting the links within the roller chain, creating a cohesive unit. Due to their critical role, it is crucial to prioritize lubrication of pins and bushings, as these areas are most susceptible to wear and tear over time. 3-Side Plates: These components play a pivotal role in the roller chain by bearing the tension across the chain links. They enable the inner and outer links to effectively transfer the tensile load from pin to pin, ensuring the chain’s structural integrity and strength. As such, the side plates are essential for maintaining the overall stability and functionality of the roller chain, especially under heavy loads and rigorous operating conditions.

4-Bushing: Bushings are crucial components that securely hold the inner plates of the roller chain together. They achieve this by guiding the pins, which hold the outer plates, through the inner plates’ bushings. This design minimizes wear on the sprocket teeth and the plates in areas where they come into contact with the pins. By providing stability and reducing friction, bushings contribute to the smooth operation and longevity of the roller chain, ensuring efficient energy transmission and minimizing maintenance requirements.
