The steel pintle chain derives its name from its design, where a pintle, a pin or bolt, is inserted into a socket-like cylindrical fitting called a gudgeon. This attachment method allows for a pivoting or hinging connection to a second, similar component, creating a robust yet flexible chain for conveying heavy materials.

Pintle chains consist of barrels and links as single castings, with each casting connected to the next using a steel pin, forming a chain. This construction provides increased strength compared to other chains, enabling a wider range of applications.

All chain components undergo heat treatment to achieve maximum strength and enhanced wear resistance. Quad staked pins are employed for increased durability.
